Free Appliances with Purchase at UAKC

GE-Free

Is it too good to be true? The copycat effect is here in the form of free dishwashers and other great appliances. For years, Thermador has been promoting a free dishwasher with the purchase of other select Thermador appliances. Why?

Brands are often famous for a single product category. Thermador, is famous for its cooking products. Now a part of BSH, one of Thermador’s sister companies is Bosch, a brand that is known for its dishwashers. So, it only makes sense that Thermador dishwashers are manufactured by Bosch. Yet Thermador customers would consistently purchase a Thermador oven, and a Thermador cooktop, and then choose a different brand dishwasher, perhaps a Miele, an Asko, or yes even a dishwasher from their sister company, Bosch. But Thermador wants their customers to buy a kitchen full of Thermador appliances. Voilà, give customers a free dishwasher when they buy other Thermador appliances, too. This package might include not just cooking products, but also Thermador refrigerators, vent hoods, etc.

Well, it turned out to be such a good idea that other brands now offer free dishwashers or other appliances, when you select their brands. Right now, if you make a qualifying purchase at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center, you can get a free dishwasher or more from the following brands:

Maintaining Your Major Appliances

Here are some tips to maintaining, cleaning, and inspecting your washing machine and clothes dryer. You can save time and money by following this advice, and avoid breakdowns, or hazardous situations.

Washing Machine

Washer Hoses

It’s a good idea to periodically check and replace the fill hoses on your washing machine. If you have rubber hoses, you should consider replacing them with braided stainless steel hoses. It is recommended that you replace your washer hoses every 3-5 years. While you are back there, take a look at the electrical connection. The plug needs to be firmly in place, the cord connection to the washer should have a restraint, and should not evidence any corrosion or burn marks. Also, you should periodically clean the inside of your outer washer tub. Whirlpool makes a cleaner called Affresh for this purpose. There are also a variety of home remedies including using combinations of bleach, vinegar, and/or baking soda. You can discover these cleaning remedies online, or just look on the aisles of your grocery store for washer cleaning products.

Front Load Gasket

If you have a front loading washer, pay special attention to cleaning the front gasket, especially at the bottom where it’s possible for moisture to settle and mold to grow.

Automatic Dryer

Dryer lint filter

Make a habit of cleaning the lint filter in your dryer once a week. It’s also very important to regularly clean the dryer vent. If you’re lucky you’ll have a short direct vent pipe to the outside that you can clean with a vacuum cleaner or even a spiral brush. In extreme cases of long vents with bends or turns, it may be necessary to have the dryer vent cleaned professionally. A clogged dryer vent can cause a fire, so this is definitely important. It’s also a good idea to periodically remove the front panel and vacuum the dryer cavity. As with all your appliances, take a look at the electrical and gas connections, and deal with any corrosion or frayed wires. If there is any evidence of a problem such as a short circuit, bad gas connection, etc. call a plumber or electrician and don’t use the appliance until the problem is fixed.

Of course, if your washer or dryer needs replacing you should call or visit the professionals at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center for the best selection and lowest prices on major appliances and decorative plumbing fixtures.

Three tips for cleaner dishes

1. Don’t pre-clean your dishes.

Some people want to give their dishwasher a little help by pre-washing their dishes. While you certainly don’t want to put your leftover for baked on food in your dishwasher, it is not a good idea to rinse off your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher. Dishwasher detergents contain chemicals that keep food particles removed from the dishes in suspension so that they don’t get redeposited on your dishes. If you put only clean dishes in the dishwasher, the detergent will find no dirt particles and wind up as a film on your already clean dishes.

2. Hot water gets dishes clean.

Typically, dishwashers will heat incoming water to 150 degrees or more depending on the cycle selected. However, the incoming water needs to be 120 degrees for this to happen. Even if your water heater provides water at 120 degrees, if your dishwasher is located too far from the water heater, the hot water may not be hot enough by the time it gets to the dishwasher. My water heater is at one corner of my house, and my dishwasher is clear over at the other corner, as far as it can be from the water heater. We need to run the hot water at the sink near the dishwasher for a few minutes before we start our dishwasher.

3. Dishwasher detergents, rinse aids, and more.

Most popular detergents will do a decent job of cleaning dishes. Some folks use the pods and others use powder. It’s a very good idea if you use a rinse agent also. It will really help in the rinse cycle. Finally, if you have really hard water, you may need to use a conditioner. We use and recommend a product called LemiShine. LemiShine is great to use by itself as a dishwasher cleaner to remove hard water buildup. But, we have really hard water and use it regularly as a detergent additive in order to remove spots and films from our dishes and glassware.

Of course, sometimes you just need a new dishwasher. If you have really hard water, you might consider a dishwasher which has a built-in water softener. Miele is famous for having dishwashers with a water softener, but KitchenAidBosch, and Maytag also have some dishwashers with a built-in water softener. You should call or visit the professionals today at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center for the best prices and availability of dishwashers and other major appliances or decorative plumbing fixtures.

Ovens that Cook Fast

There has been a lot of development in ovens that cook quickly. Thanks to convection cooking, there’s no more waiting all day for the turkey to cook. With microwave ovens many foods can be reheated in just a couple of minutes. With the advanced technology included in GE’s Advantium and Viking’s TurboChef, the disadvantages of traditional microwave cooking go away, but the food is still cooking at a lightning fast speed. Steam cooking has begun to make a big mark in speed cooking not just because of its speed, but because it preserves foods nutrients, flavor, and color.

Let’s review a few of the ovens that will cook your food faster.

Refrigerators with Cameras and See Through Doors

One of the most recent trends in refrigerators is adding cameras inside to let you know what is inside your refrigerator. Some manufacturers also have the low-tech solution of having a window on the door. We’ll take a look (joke intended) below. The low tech window solution means that you have to be standing in front of your fridge to see what is inside, while the camera solution lets you check the refrigerator contents while you’re in the grocery store or elsewhere:

Window in the door refrigerators

Sub Zero

Sub Zero Grand Pro

Sub Zero has at least two versions of full-sized refrigerators with windows in the door which offer a view of what is inside. The Grand Pro 48 Refrigerator and the 36″ Single Door Refrigerator with window. Both refrigerators are leaders in their class.

The Grand Pro is a unique refrigerator which has the appearance of a refrigerator that you might find in the back of a restaurant. As you can see, it’s a large 48″ wide refrigerator, and one of the upper doors has a see through window so you can view what’s inside. The 36″ built-in glass door all refrigerator, BI-36RG has a full length window giving you view of the entire contents.

Neither of these refrigerators have built-in cameras, but you can look at the contents to your heart’s content as long as you are standing in the kitchen.

Frigidaire

The new Frigidaire Professional refrigerator with a glass door is opaque, until you stand in front of it. Motion detectors magically sense your presence and activate the interior lights that let you see the refrigerators contents. Again, no cameras, so you’ll need to take our own photos with your own camera if you want to archive the fridge’s contents.

LG

LG has a smart refrigerator sporting some of the high-tech features you’ll find on the Samsung below. My research did not reveal that this product has internal cameras that let you check the contents remotely. What it does have is an opaque front that turns into a see through window when you knock twice on the door.

Cameras Inside Refrigerators

The following refrigerators have cameras inside so that you can see what is inside by using a compatible smart phone.

Samsung

This high-tech beauty has multiple cameras that can be accessed by your smartphone when you go shopping. There’s even a feature that lets you mark your products expiration dates for retrieval so you can check experation dates while at the grocery store. Clever.

Dacor

Recently purchased by Samsung, is it any wonder that Dacor’s new column refrigerators also have cameras built-in?
